Despite his new-found stature as a heartthrob, Robert was initially hesitant about playing the role of Edward until he found out his love interest and co-star would be Kristen Stewart, he tells Premiere.com.

“When I read the book, and there are these moony descriptions of Edward as this God-like figure, I thought there was no way I could play him, really,” Robert said. “But when I got into the room with Kristen, there was just certain chemistry.”

“She’s basically the reason I did the movie,” Robert adds.

The 22-year-old actor tells Premiere he was a fan of Kristen’s before he had the opportunity to work with her, adding: “She’s really the best actress of her generation.”

Check out the on-screen chemistry between Robert and Kristen when ‘Twilight’ hits theaters Nov. 21.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The first time out, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s romance went down with the ship.

Now the “Titanic” stars reunite for another love affair, and this one’s a train wreck.

Winslet and DiCaprio attended a press screening Saturday for “Revolutionary Road,” their dark domestic drama that should put them back in the heart of the upcoming Academy Awards season.

“Revolutionary Road” — adapted from the Richard Yates novel and directed by Winslet’s husband, Sam Mendes — traces the married life of Frank and April Wheeler, whose relationship begins in giddy optimism but runs aground amid the monotony of 1950s suburbia.

Though the Wheelers share moments of deep affection, their marriage generally devolves into discord and shouting matches that would drown out Jackie Gleason’s bellowing Ralph Kramden in “The Honeymooners.”

Things really begin to unravel after the couple hits on a plan to reinvigorate their lives: Moving to Paris with their two young children.

As new opportunities open up at his dreary office job, Frank comes to resist their Paris move. But for April, a failed actress, Paris represents the free and exciting life she always thought she would have.

“This was a very, very empty woman who was looking for so much more than just Frank,” Winslet said during a panel discussion with DiCaprio, Mendes and other co-stars after the screening. “This was a woman who really had some big, big dreams, but they really were never going to come true.”

Winslet had long been interested in an adaptation of “Revolutionary Road” and brought DiCaprio on board for their first on-screen reunion since 1997’s “Titanic,” the biggest modern blockbuster at $1.8 billion worldwide.

DiCaprio said that when he first read Yates’ novel, he was struck by the agonizing authenticity of its portrait of domestic strife.

“I felt almost embarrassed. I felt like I was a fly on the wall, almost, watching this relationship unravel,” DiCaprio said.

“I felt like I shouldn’t be here.”

There were awkward domestic moments on set, as well. Mendes had to direct a lusty scene between his wife and DiCaprio as their characters have sex against a kitchen counter.

“Those scenes are always difficult, even when it’s not one’s wife,” Mendes said.

The director saved some of the harshest scenes, when Frank and April tumble into vicious bickering, for late in the shoot.

“There was such a level of anticipation. `When are we going to get to yell at each other?’ … “I couldn’t wait till we got to week four so I can give it to you,” DiCaprio joked, sitting alongside Winslet.

“Revolutionary Road” is the second drama set in the American suburbs for British filmmaker Mendes, whose debut film “American Beauty” won five Oscars, including best picture and director.

Like “American Beauty,” “Revolutionary Road” blends horrific tragedy and hilarious satire, both films examining themes of parenthood, infidelity and the false fronts suburbanites present to their neighbors.

“Titanic” won 11 Oscars, best picture among them, and earned Winslet a best-actress nomination, though DiCaprio was overlooked in the best-actor category.

With powerhouse performances, Winslet and DiCaprio both could be in line for acting nominations this time, along with co-star Michael Shannon, who has a scene-stealing role as a psychiatric patient brutally dissecting Frank and April’s shortcomings.

“Revolutionary Road” also reunites Winslet and DiCaprio with “Titanic” co-star Kathy Bates.

The film opens in New York City and Los Angeles on Dec. 26 to qualify for the Oscars, then expands nationally in January.

“It’s a pity that some groups feel the need to assault people as opposed to fighting with words,” Samantha wrote on her MySpace blog. Animal rights activists dumped a bag of flour on Lindsay, 22, as she arrived at the club Friday night sporting a fur stole, the Associated Press reported.

“It seems lately I am learning that there are too many people who put another species before their fellow man and that’s sad. I don’t wear fur, but I don’t think I have the right to ATTACK those who do. No one has that right,” wrote Samantha, who accompanied Linday to the nightclub.

The nightclub’s owner proceeded to dust Lindsay off before she and Samantha made their way down the red carpet and into the building, the AP said. Be sure to tune in to “Entertainment Tonight” on Monday for our exclusive video of the incident!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — James Bond’s quantum of the weekend box office: $70.4 million.

“Quantum of Solace,” with Daniel Craig returning as Bond for the first direct sequel in the spy franchise, pulled in nearly $30 million more over opening weekend than its predecessor, 2006’s “Casino Royale,” according to studio estimates Sunday.

The debut also topped the previous opening-weekend record for a Bond flick, $47 million for 2002’s “Die Another Day.”

Adjusting for inflation, Sony’s “Quantum of Solace” easily drew a bigger audience than that installment, the last Bond adventure featuring Pierce Brosnan. Based on 2002 admission prices, about 8.1 million tickets were sold for “Die Another Day” in the first weekend, compared to 9.8 million for “Quantum of Solace.”

Two years ago, Craig was an unknown quantity as Bond, a stage-trained actor with little action experience and a resume that tended toward small, artsier films. Many fans were unhappy with the casting choice, but the critical and commercial success of “Casino Royale” silenced the critics.

“Quantum of Solace” picks up where “Casino Royale” left off, with Bond seeking to avenge the death of his lover.

“With ‘Casino Royale,’ people were rediscovering the franchise in a way with Daniel Craig as James Bond,” said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony. “Quite frankly, they loved it. They loved the movie, and they loved him in the role, so I think by the time `Quantum of Solace’ was ready, audiences in the U.S. as well as the world audience was way ready.”

“Quantum of Solace” began rolling out overseas two weekends before its U.S. debut, and its worldwide total now stands at $322 million.

DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” which debuted at No. 1 the previous weekend, slipped to second place with $36.1 million, raising its 10-day total to $118 million.

“Quantum of Solace” gave a huge boost to overall revenues as Hollywood heads toward Thanksgiving, one of the year’s busiest weekends at theaters. The top 12 movies took in $142.9 million, up 54 percent from the same weekend a year ago, when “Beowulf” led the box office with $27.5 million.

Movie revenue is running 1 percent ahead of 2007’s record pace, when the industry took in $9.7 billion, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers. Factoring in inflation, the number of tickets sold this year is 3.5 percent behind 2007’s, though.

The next two weekends will bring more likely hits, including the vampire romance “Twilight,” John Travolta and Miley Cyrus’ animated comedy “Bolt” and Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn’s holiday romp “Four Christmases.”

“Hollywood is in the best possible position right now, because it’s all about momentum, and the industry certainly has that heading into the all-important holiday period,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.

Fox Searchlight’s “Slumdog Millionaire” had an impressive debut in limited release, taking in $350,434 in 10 theaters for a strong average of $35,043 a cinema. By comparison, “Quantum of Solace” averaged $20,400 in 3,451 theaters.

A film festival favorite, “Slumdog Millionaire” was directed by Danny Boyle (”Trainspotting,” “28 Days Later”) and follows the alternately heartwarming and horrific life of a poor youth who becomes a contestant on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. “Quantum of Solace,” $70.4 million.

2. “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” $36.1 million.

3. “Role Models,” $11.7 million.

4. “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” $5.9 million.

5. “Changeling,” $4.2 million.

6. “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” $3.2 million.

7. “Soul Men,” $2.43 million.

8. “The Secret Life of Bees,” $2.4 million.

9. “Saw V,” $1.8 million.

10. “The Haunting of Molly Hartley,” $1.6 million.

The ‘Changeling’ actress tells BBC News, “I don’t plan to keep acting very long. I’m ready to do a few things now and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day.”

Angelina says that as she continues to focus on being a mother, she will be acting less. “I’m not so worried that I want to keep this pace up and try to be something and be a celebrity.”

She says she’s grateful to play the roles of her choosing but “everything comes in seasons.”

“I hopefully won’t be needing to do that later in my life anyway.”

But don’t expect Angelina to completely fade away! “I don’t think I’ll ever say I’m never, ever gonna work,” the actress explains, “first and foremost I have a lot of children and I need to make sure they’re growing right and they’ve got us there for them.”

Follieri’s lawyer sent a letter to a judge this week complaining about the facility.

“Mr. Follieri reports that he is in a windowless dormitory with approximately 120 other men,” the letter said. “He says that he cannot eat because the food appears to be spoiled and that the toilet and shower facilities are unspeakably unsanitary. e.g., there is excrement in the shower and rats are roaming freely in the area. He says the stench is intolerable.”

The lawyer, Flora Edwards, said things are so bad, it has made Follieri ill. So far he has had a fever, blood in his urine, intestinal problems and shortness of breath.

Edwards asked the judge to have the 30-year-old transferred back to the federal jail in Manhattan where he was previously held.

The judge asked the government to look into Follieri’s complaints.

Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison in October. He pleaded guilty to cheating investors out of millions of dollars by falsely claiming he had Vatican connections that enabled him to buy church property at a discount.

The proceeds supported a playboy lifestyle that included a $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment and lavish vacations with Hathaway. The couple dated for four years.

The Oscar-nominated actor and his son appeared in court Thursday morning, where attorneys asked a judge for more time to review evidence.

The 67-year-old actor and his 23-year-old son were ordered to return on Jan. 9.

They were arrested in September when Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies did a routine parole check on Redmond O’Neal, who was staying at his father’s Malibu home.

O’Neal, 67, was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for 1970’s “Love Story.” Redmond, 23, is his son from a relationship with Farrah Fawcett.

(AP) — A woman has been placed on three years of probation following her guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of stalking actress Sandra Bullock.

A felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon was dropped against Marcia Valentine, 47, after she entered her guilty plea to stalking on Nov. 5, according to the Orange County Superior Court Web site.

Bullock obtained a restraining order in May 2007 barring Valentine from contacting her or coming near her home, family or work for three years.

The actress testified in court that on five occasions Valentine left in her yard palm fronds adorned with “weird signs” and “pieces of animal fur.”

Bullock testified that after Valentine was spotted April 22, 2007, outside her home in Sunset Beach, her husband, Jesse James, went outside and tried to write down the woman’s license plate.

Bullock said Valentine screamed obscenities and twice tried to run over James with her silver Mercedes-Benz. James, host of TV’s “Monster Garage,” was not hurt.

Valentine was arrested the next day by sheriff’s deputies while driving in the area.
