Glorious NYC lawsuit ruling for ‘Borat’ filmmakers

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge has tossed out lawsuits brought by a driving instructor and two etiquette school teachers who said the makers of the movie “Borat” deceived them.

Judge Loretta Preska says all three accepted money and signed agreements releasing the filmmakers from liability. She noted in a Sept. 3 ruling the agreements said the plaintiffs consented to appear in a “documentary-style” movie.

Man gets prison for crime at Dunst’s NYC hotel

NEW YORK (AP) — A drug addict who was arrested on charges of burglarizing Kirsten Dunst’s New York City hotel penthouse suite has been sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison.

Jarrod Beinerman was arrested on burglary and larceny charges after a security camera captured his movements in Manhattan’s SoHo Grand Hotel in August 2007. He was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of attempted burglary.

De Niro testifies in NYC hotel dispute

NEW YORK (AP) — Robert De Niro’s planned $43 million hotel in downtown Manhattan features a handmade brick exterior, Carrara marble bathtubs — and a luxurious penthouse, which has raised the hackles of preservationists who say he flouted the rules with that top-floor suite.

The penthouse atop the seven-story hotel does not match the design that the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission approved in 2004, and the panel held a hearing Tuesday on whether De Niro and his partners should remove the rooftop suite — at an estimated cost of $1.5 million — and start over.

NYC lawsuit accuses Lohan of taking mink coat

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City college student has sued Lindsay Lohan, claiming the “Mean Girls” star took her mink coat without permission and kept it for more than two weeks.

Maria Markova said in a lawsuit filed Monday that Lohan, 21, took the $12,000 golden sheared mink coat while in the nightclub 1 Oak on Jan. 26.

The 22-year-old Markova’s lawyer, Merrill Cohen, said Lohan had been sitting next to her client. Cohen said Markova next saw her coat on Lohan in a photo in OK! magazine.

NYC jury convicts fan of stalking Uma Thurman

NEW YORK (AP) — A lovesick former mental patient was convicted Tuesday of stalking and harassing Uma Thurman for more than two years, showing up on her front doorstep and movie set and sending the actress a series of creepy love letters.

Jack Jordan, a 37-year-old out-of-work lifeguard and pool cleaner, faces up to a year in jail. He was convicted of stalking and one count of aggravated harassment, and acquitted of two other harassment counts.

NYC jury to hear accused Thurman stalker’s statements

A jury will hear statements a former mental patient accused of stalking Uma Thurman made to police.

State Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro denied a defense motion to exclude the material — including a letter he wrote to the “Kill Bill” actress and e-mails he sent to her father — in which defendant Jack Jordan expresses love for Thurman.
